VPK Group and Zetacarton join forces

VPK Group has entered into an agreement to acquire a majority stake in Zetacarton, Italian corrugated cardboard company based nearby Como.

Zetacarton, an Italian company led by the Zanfrini family, is a leader in the production of corrugated cardboard packaging including special niche products such as Fanfold and bigbox packaging. Zetacarton was founded in 1952 by Angelo Zanfrini and Maria Romano, subsequently has grown thanks to Giuseppe and Cesare Zanfrini. It is a private Italian company active in the corrugated cardboard sector: it produces sheet cardboard, continuous corrugated cardboard, boxes for separate waste collection, displays, American and die-cut cardboard for medical waste and special packaging, with both flexographic and digital printing.

Zetacarton logo cartoneUnder the leadership of the second and third generations, Zetacarton Group has grown over the years, employing 110 people, exporting to more than 10 countries and recording a turnover of over 75 million euros. Serena and Giuseppe Zanfrini will continue to lead the company, as they have done successfully in recent years.

With their product offering of printed Fanfold, a technology that makes it possible to produce customized packaging, eliminating empty spaces in the packaging and reducing logistics costs, Zetacarton complements VPK Group’s fit2size® offering. This further expands the group’s geographical coverage for Fanfold and enables it to serve e-commerce logistics distribution centers across Europe. Acquiring a majority stake in Zetacarton underlines VPK’s ambition and belief in the future of Fanfold solutions.

An integration between solid and strong companies

Zetacarton recently invested in a new digital single pass printer, the Hanway Glory 1606, further expanding its product offering. The new high speed printing unit works with water-based inks. This high-end printing machine allows quick switching between short print jobs and delivers superior printing accuracy. The machine forms the centerpiece of a high-productivity digital pole.

The private Belgian group VPK produces recycled paper, corrugated cardboard packaging, various types of packaging. In addition to VPK Packaging, the overall portfolio of the VPK Group brand includes Corex for the production of tubes and corners, Smart Packaging Solutions for the production of folding cardboard packaging and Aquila for the production of corrugated cardboard sheets. With more than 7,500 employees at 60 locations in 20 countries, the group has a turnover of 2.1 billion euros.

The acquisition is in line with VPK Group’s long-term vision and strategy to focus on sustainable growth and further expand its vertically integrated value-added business model across Europe.
