Sealable high-barrier papers
In the Functional Paper Packaging segment, Sappi will be exhibiting the Guard and AvantGuard product families of barrier papers that eliminate the need for additional special coatings or laminations, and can be recycled in the wastepaper stream. With integrated barriers, they ensure that the product quality of food and other products is safeguarded. The new generation of these high-barrier papers will be celebrating its premiere at the FachPack.

Sappi AvantGuard S with integrated heat-sealing capability. Over the last decade, as a leading manufacturer of paper-based solutions with integrated barrier functionalities, Sappi has acquired a great deal of expertise in the field of sustainable packaging solutions. The company’s extensive research and development expertise combined with valuable customer contacts are driving the development of innovative barrier products. The company will be presenting some of these packaging solutions at the FachPack. Furthermore, a vertical packaging solution with a stand-up pouch will be presented live at packaging machine manufacturer Rovema’s stand.

Innovation in corrugated packaging
The new Fusion Nature Plus will occupy a prominent position at Sappi’s stand at the show. Fusion Nature Plus is an uncoated, recyclable virgin fibre liner with excellent printability in flexo, digital and offset printing. This is thanks to the product’s high whiteness, brilliant colour reproduction and consistently high quality. These properties make it the perfect choice for corrugated or solid board packaging where a bright white appearance is required for topliner, inner liner and fluting – and for ensuring an exceptional unpacking experience for the customer. It is the ideal complement to the company’s well-established Fusion Topliner. Moreover, the new virgin fibre liner is also ideally suited for producing paper carrier bags. It stands out with properties such as strength, as well as an appealing look and feel.

Labelling made easy
Sappi will also be presenting its wide-ranging portfolio of label paper solutions, which was recently expanded with the Parade Label Pro non-wet-strength wet-glue label paper. The paper is an interesting option for manufacturers in the beverage, food and consumer goods sectors. It is suitable for a wide range of applications, such as labels for disposable bottles, food and non-food containers, as well as wrappers for a wide variety of products. Its glossy, single-side double-coated quality distinguishes itself with a very smooth surface and a high degree of whiteness – ideally suited for outstanding printing and finishing results.
Visitors to the stand will also be able to see a wide range of kraft papers for flexible packaging. Among the innovations is the translucent Crystalcon paper, which is both recyclable and compostable, and can be used for various applications. Sappi will also be presenting further new packaging papers for the food sector. The Fibrecar MT and Delicon papers were specially developed for food packaging.

Algro Design for premium packaging
At the trade fair, Sappi will be presenting numerous examples of high-quality packaging for premium products which were implemented with the premium Algro Design pulp board, a product that is now very well established among several international brand-name manufacturers. Sappi’s Algro Design portfolio is known, among other things, for its vivid colour reproduction, high contrast and ideal running properties. Its silky feel and resistance to UV light are also outstanding.

Sappi is taking a two-pronged approach: Analogue meets digital
In view of the exceptional circumstances resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, Sappi is responding to the concerns of potential visitors. Since the situation may change quickly and unanticipated travel restrictions are possible at any time, the company has decided to develop a hybrid event format for the FachPack 2021. Visitors will therefore have the option to participate virtually even without travelling to Nuremberg.
Many are already familiar with the “Blue Couch Series” digital interview format: The renowned Blue Couch will also be on the stand this year. Sappi employees will be offering a glimpse behind the scenes of the Group and into the future of the paper industry, e.g. with new products, innovations and insight on the ever-important topic of sustainability – both on site and for participants at home.
