Present in the Irish market for two decades, Bimec has recently delivered one of its top-of-the-range models to the company Alert Packaging, the TCA Duplex Turret Slitter Rewinder.
Alert Packaging is a company that has been supplying flexible packaging worldwide since 1975, mainly for the food, beverage and pharmaceutical industries. In June 2021, the company contacted Bimec to receive more information about the BBOX Duplex Turret Slitter Rewinder, which had recently been presented to the market through a digital event.
The Irish company already had in its premises Slitter Rewinders from other brands but wanted to install a state-of-the-art system, which would guarantee an increase in its business productivity while reducing downtimes. After an initial phase of technical consultancy to define the customer’s needs, Bimec invited Alert Packaging to its headquarters to see its plants live and test their materials with the TCA 64C+ Slitter Rewinder, a slitting system from which the design of the BBOX machine was developed and of which it represents the evolution.
The trials in Bimec allowed the customer to personally verify the high performance of the machine and its automatisms, which have been designed to reduce downtimes during the working cycles, as well as the quality of the raw materials used and the consequent robustness and solidity of the system, which guarantees a long-lasting use. Furthermore, it was immediately evident how simple it was for a single operator to carry out the jobs easily and follow the various production’ stages.
The Duplex Turret Slitter Rewinder TCA 64C+, stands out for its compact design which, thanks to the semi-integrated unwinding carriage, allows to have easy access to the slitting area and eliminates the risk of material contamination by dust particles.
It is designed for razor blades and pneumatic circular knives slitting and counts several automatisms, including the automatic positioning system of the knife holders and multi-groove female knives, which are combined with the automatic single laser beam for core positioning and a reel unloading station, which allows the automatic opening/closing and rotation of the side stand arms.
The tests carried out in Bimec have fully satisfied the customer and the negotiation ended with the purchase of the TCA 64C + system. This slitter rewinder was successfully delivered and started up at the end of 2021: it unwinds mother rolls with a diameter up to 1000 mm, rewinds finished rolls with a diameter up to 610 mm and reaches a maximum speed of 800 m/min, allowing a quick loading and unloading of the finished rolls.
After 6 months of continuous cycle work, Alert Packaging states that the efficiency of the plant is above its expectations and, in an article published on its website, declares:

This Duplex slitter has automatic and programmable tension control for unwind and rewind work suitable for all flexible packaging materials. Coupled with our lifting equipment it allows us to cater for a growing number of customers requesting larger and heavier reels, resulting in increased efficiencies for them also. It is an exciting time for us as we continue to grow and develop more environmental packaging solutions for our customers”.
