Grifal Technologies RotoMultiCut: Modularity and Innovation for Sustainable Packaging

39

Grifal Technologies is the engineering division of Grifal Group, which has operated in the innovative and sustainable packaging sector since 1969. The division designs and manufactures intelligent packaging machinery to support companies in their Digital & Packaging Transformation processes

Grifal

The most advanced system developed by Grifal Technologies is the RotoMultiCut, designed for modular conversion of eco-sustainable packaging materials, primarily paper-based but applicable to other substrates. This advanced machinery line enables processing of protective packaging materials, in sheets or rolls, producing finished, marked, ready-to-use products in a single pass, thereby optimizing production efficiency and reducing operational costs.

The RotoMultiCut RMC 1201 GT system processes various material types, including cArtù® (Grifal’s proprietary high-thickness flexible corrugated board with cushioning and protective properties) in sheets or rolls with single face or single wall construction, corrugated board with E/B/C/EB/BC flutes, triple wall corrugated board, honeycomb structures, solid board, and the newly developed tissuePack – a multi-ply corrugated structure utilizing 100% natural fibers developed by Grifal.

The RotoMultiCut RMC 1201 GT performs the following operations in a single pass:

  • Inkjet marking
  • Longitudinal full and partial cuts on upper and lower surfaces using rotary blades
  • Longitudinal scissor cutting
  • Creasing
  • Transverse double-helix cutting

The RotoMultiCut RMC 1201 GT consists of integrated modules functioning in sequence:

Input and Loading Module
Accommodates sheet or roll feeding with precise adjustment capability for material width and positioning.

Motorized Feeding and Printing Module
Employs synchronized brushless motors for precise speed regulation. The large-diameter rubber-coated feed rollers are engineered to handle single face corrugated materials. The printing system utilizes six independently positionable 12 mm inkjet heads.

Longitudinal Cutting and Partial Cutting Module
Implements a blade-based cutting mechanism providing clean cuts without material deformation. Each cutting unit allows individual depth adjustment. Blade holders positioned both above and below the material path enable minimum cutting tolerance management and “accordion-style” cutting patterns.

Longitudinal Scissor Cutting and Creasing Module
Features two motorized shafts configurable with multiple scissor cutting and creasing units. Each shaft permits independent speed and rotation direction adjustment.

Rotary Double-Helix Transverse Cutting Module
Delivers precise transverse cuts during continuous operation via a specialized constant-torque motor system.

Unloading and Material Collection Module
Integrates a conveyor system for processed material handling.

The system’s technical specifications include a modular rail-mounted component structure facilitating maintenance and configuration adjustments. The continuous feeding mechanism, coupled with synchronized brushless motors, provides speed control with throughput capacity of 50 meters/minute.

Remote monitoring capabilities enable real-time process observation, with an optional Business Intelligence module for production data analysis and reporting.

The modular design and technical integration of the RotoMultiCut RMC 1201 GT provide an effective solution for packaging material conversion operations. The system’s technical versatility enables production optimization, material waste reduction, and enhanced packaging sustainability. This machinery line represents Grifal Technologies’ continued development of advanced packaging conversion systems designed to meet contemporary industrial and logistics requirements.
